How to Build An Online Business from Scratch -- Even If You Have No Audience, No List, and No Social Proof

Let’s be honest—starting an online business can feel overwhelming when you don’t have an audience, an email list, or any previous proof that what you’re offering actually works.

But here’s the truth: you don’t need those things to start making money online. You just need a strategy that works and the willingness to follow through.

I know because I’ve been in this exact place—wondering how to take what I know, what I’ve created, and what I believe in and actually turn it into a profitable online business. And if you’re reading this, I know you’re searching for a clear, actionable path to do the same.

So let’s break it down—step by step—so you can get started today.

Step 1: Get Crystal Clear on Your Offer

You need to know precisely what you’re offering and who your 'person' is that it’s for. Most people get stuck here because they overcomplicate it. You don’t need to invent something revolutionary—you just need to solve a specific problem for a specific person.

Ask yourself:

  • What skill, knowledge, or experience do I have that could help someone else?

  • What problem can I solve that people are already looking for an answer to?

  • What tools or resources do I already have that I can package as a solution?

That’s why I created the Clarity Blueprint, a fillable PDF to help you determine your skill set and what you can turn into an offer.

If you don’t know what to sell yet, start there.

Step 2: Create a Simple, Sellable Product

Once you know your offer, don’t overthink the format. People pay for solutions, not fluff. Start with something that’s easy to create and delivers immediate value:

  • A journal or workbook to guide people through a transformation

  • A mini-course teaching one skill or process

  • A coaching package for accountability and guidance

You don’t need a massive course or a high-ticket offer to start making sales. In fact, low-ticket, high-value digital products can be the best way to gain traction fast.

Step 3: Set Up Your Online Presence (Without Overcomplicating It)

You don’t need a fancy funnel or an expensive sales platform to start. In fact, I personally recommend using WIX because it allows you to:

  • Build a professional-looking site without coding

  • Sell digital products, memberships, and courses all in one place

  • Avoid the limitations of link-in-bio tools that don’t allow real brand growth

If you’re serious about making money online, having a home base (a website) will make it easier to grow and look professional from day one.

Done For You option. A pro tip for doing WIX the easy way is to either hire a professional, which you can do right inside of WIX (no need to go to FIVERR, which is very hit and miss), and if you have the funds to do so, then I absolutely think that would be great.

Nearly Done For You option. You can also go to Etsy and purchase a beautiful WIX website template that fits the style and brand you feel compliments you and your message. Then, just get that site and tweak it with your information.

Lean on WIX Customer Support. One of the things I love most about WIX is their customer support (something you will never get trying to build a WordPress site). You can get help with any aspect of building your website, and that is the game changer, in my opinion.

Step 4: Get Traffic to Your Offer (Even Without an Audience)

This is where most people get stuck, but it’s also the most straightforward part when you know what to do.

Consistency is King! Regardless of what channel (or multiple channels) you choose to promote your offer, the fuel to your engine will be consistency.  Here’s how to start getting traffic without a list or a following:

  1. Create valuable content around your offer. Blog about it. Create carousels for Instagram. Make YouTube videos (even if you don’t show your face). Share insights in Facebook groups where your audience already hangs out (if that’s your thing). Caution! Do not overextend yourself. If you can only handle one thing at a time, then pick one and commit to it and nothing else. It will do you no good to try to do them all and then end up doing none!

  2. Use tools like Awesome Screenshot to record quick tutorials or walk-throughs of your product (this builds trust fast).

  3. Leverage low-cost ads (if you have the budget). Even $5/day can put your offer in front of the right people and build momentum.

  4. Offer a freebie to capture leads. A simple checklist, template, or guide in exchange for an email address is a great way to start building your list (so you’re not dependent on social media algorithms to reach people).

Step 5: Build Relationships That Convert into Sales

The key to making money online—especially in the beginning—is personal connection.

People buy from those they trust, and trust is built through consistency and value.

  • Show up and share your story—your struggles, your faith, your journey.

  • Engage with people who interact with your content (respond to comments, DMs, and emails).

  • Offer real help before expecting a sale.

This is also where a private membership can be a game-changer. A low-cost coaching community (like the one I’m building) allows you to offer ongoing support and accountability while generating monthly recurring income. This can also be created right inside of WIX (I like WIX a lot, can you tell?) :)

Step 6: Keep It Simple and Stay Focused

One of the biggest mistakes I see people make (and one I’ve struggled with myself) is jumping from thing to thing, looking for the “right” strategy.

The truth is, you don’t need to do everything at once.

Start with one core offer, one primary way of getting traffic (blogging, Instagram, or YouTube), and one straightforward strategy to nurture leads (email list or private community).

Then, stick with it long enough to see results.

Final Thoughts: Can You Really Make Money Blogging Today?

Absolutely. Blogging still works—if you use it strategically.

Instead of just writing about your thoughts, use your blog to:

  • Solve real problems your audience is searching for

  • Rank on Google for topics related to your products

  • Drive traffic to your digital offers

  • Build an email list of potential buyers

If you’re tired of spinning your wheels, I want you to know you can do this.

You don’t need a massive audience or years of experience. You just need precision, focus, and a willingness to take action.

I’m building this right alongside you. Let’s do it together.
